DARKEST SIDE

Location: Hermosa Beach, CA.
Darkest Side Profile:
Darkest Side style of rock is best defined as an explosive
union between Grunge and balls-to-the-wall Hard Rock! And like a good card game,
their songs send you on a roller coaster ride of sounds with a ballad or two
that will relax you one moment before Hard Rock mayhem kicks in and hits you
with an adrenalin rush that will turn your world upside down.
Darkest Side, formed in 2004, we are loosely based on the
similar style, and concepts of another band, Nirvana. The bands music evolved
from that of past forms of grunge, to more of a hard rock/grunge sound. To try
and put Darkest Side into one genre may be impossible. It just depends what song
you listen too.
As a controversial band, Darkest Side music is said to
have lyrics about the drugs, suicide, and other implications. Darkest Side is
definitely not a cup of tea for most. The bands music is like the dead meeting
rock and roll for the first time. Listen, and imagine it!
The band attributes its success to its hard work and determination from all of
its members. The current line-up has made this band a hundred times stronger,”
states lead singer
Rick Beaman.
“Not only are we stronger as a whole, but the new songs we are writing are
insanely 90's style Grunge, and Hard Rock. We have definitely taken the next big
step in the evolution of the band."
This evolution radiates through each, and every one of the
bands songs. Their music is groundbreaking, and part experimentation into the
deep Grunge sounds of the 90's, while the lyrics are not so much lyrics as they
are essays. Without question, the sheer power of Darkest Side must be
experienced to be believed.
"REMAINS"
is without doubt one the bands catchiest songs! Excellent riffs, lead guitar,
and vocals by lead singer and frontman Rick Beaman. So impressive is "REMAINS",
this Grunge song will be in your head forever!
Darkest Side hard hitting music is a cross between
Metallica and The Red Hot Chili Peppers. Known as Grunge. To complete Darkest
Side is frontman Rick Beaman on lead vocals, lead/rhythm guitar.
History of GRUNGE:
By the 1990’s, rock was dominated by slick and commercial glam metal, hair metal
and arena rock artists. MTV had arrived and promoted this excessive focus on
image and style. Disaffected by this, in the mid-1980s, bands in Washington
state (particularly in the Seattle area) formed a new style of rock music which
sharply contrasted the mainstream rock of the time.
The developing genre came to be known as "grunge", a term
meaning "dirt" or "filth". The term was perhaps seen as appropriate due to the
dirty sound of the music and the unkempt appearance of most musicians. Grunge
fused elements of hardcore punk and heavy metal into a single sound, and made
heavy use of guitar distortion, fuzz and feedback. The lyrics were typically
apathetic and angst-filled, and often concerned themes such as social alienation
and entrapment, although it was also known for its dark humor and parodies of
commercial rock.
Bands such as Green River, Soundgarden, the Melvins and
Skin Yard pioneered the genre, with Mudhoney becoming the most successful by the
end of the decade. However grunge remained largely a local phenomenon until
1991, when Nirvana's album Nevermind broke into the mainstream. Pearl Jam also
contributed to this with their album Ten. Both bands were more melodic than
their predecessors and were instant sensations worldwide, but they refused to
buy in to corporate promotion and marketing mechanisms. During 1991 and 1992,
other grunge bands such as Soundgarden, Alice in Chains and Candlebox gained a
wider audience. Commercial rock and metal faded almost completely from the
mainstream.
While grunge itself can be seen as somewhat limited in
range, its influence was felt across many geographic and musical boundaries;
many artists who were similarly disaffected with commercial rock music suddenly
found record companies and audiences willing to listen, and dozens of disparate
acts positioned themselves as alternatives to mainstream music; thus alternative
rock emerged from the underground. This helped pave the way for bands such as
the Smashing Pumpkins and Stone Temple Pilots who were initially stereotyped as
grunge but later enjoyed commercial and critical success independent of the
genre.
In early April 1994, grunge took a sudden shift in
popularity with the death of Nirvana's frontman Kurt Cobain. Although grunge
bands continued to release albums, the genre began to decline in popularity and,
by the end of the decade, many grunge bands had split up, stopped touring, or
had changed their musical direction.
Today grunge is slowly coming back, and the band Darkest
Side is leading the way! Darkest Side is taking it to a whole new level in 2008
with our Grunge & Hard Rock music. Fans, you can read it here first! Darkest
Side for 2008...

Latest news on Rick Beaman and the band Darkest Side |
Darkest Side & Master BIG To Release "BOOTY"
05/1/08, KJZA-FMRun-D.M.C’s fusion of rock and rap broke into the mainstream
with their song title "Walk This Way". Recorded with Aerosmith's Steven Tyler
and Joe Perry, "Walk This Way" was the first hip-hop record to appeal to both
rockers and rappers, as evidenced by its peak position of number four on the pop
charts.
Darkest Side lead singer Rick Beaman, and
Master BIG
(Travie Allen) will try to repeat history. Not to the point of success of "Walk
This Way", but just to become one of few that have released a rock and rap
titled song.
Both Darkest Side and Master BIG are looking for that once in a life time
music break, this maybe it as both had into the studio to record "BOOTY" this
month. |

Jones recent departure.

departure caught everyone off guard, as well as our fans. Neither we nor
management, etc., know any more in this regards and we prefer not to speculate
or offer opinions at this time." |

Tina Kirkland Protects Lead Singer Rick Beaman
04/18/08, KJZA-FM
Many musicians loves to hate on lead singer Rick Beaman, but one person that
is siding with him is bass player Tina Kirkland. She thinks that Rick is a
"genius", and he is not just another dumb lead singer that everyone thinks he
is.
She says, "He's a nice guy and a lot brighter than people give him credit
(for), but no one sees he's like that because he plays this character all the
time. He's actually a marketing genius."
One thing's for sure is that Rick is a marketing genius with his music. He
has definitely made himself, the band Darkest Side into a brand just by acting
like the way he does, and getting a lot of attention good and bad. Everyone can hate on
Rick, but he always gets the last laugh. In fact,
he's laughing all the way to the bank. That guy makes mad money! |
Lead Singer Sides With George Clooney!
04/11/08, KJZA-FMThe lead singer for Darkest Side, Rick Beaman agrees with
actor George Clooney, and avoids the Internet. The article on Starpulse this
week
George Clooney Avoids The Internet:
Hollywood star George Clooney avoids searching
his name on the internet - because he doesn't like the "angry people" who
inhabit cyberspace.
The Michael Clayton actor was shocked to
discover "brutal" comments about himself online a few years ago, and vowed
to stay away from the web as a result of the negative experience.
He says, "A few years ago, I went to check out
this website that someone had talked about. There's like, a thousand people
sitting in dark rooms trashing you. Brutal! You're like, 'Wow, dude'. You
see way too many angry people (on the internet). I remember getting off the
machine and thinking, 'Never, ever again'. I'd rather live in my own happy,
quiet world where I think that everyone is nice."
Rick says, "cyberspace has become a ugly place. Anybody can post lies on message
boards, forums, and blogs including jealous family members. I believe the same people that create blogs,
first post comments on messages boards or forums months before. Then later
create a blog about it, and feed off it like starving fish."
In the latest
Paris Hilton blog reported by hollyscoop, Paris addressed her haters the
best.
"So whoever made up that there wasn't a big turn
out has no idea what they are talking and just another lie on the internet
as usual. But who cares, I don't pay attention to the haters! I only pay
attention to you, my true friends and supporters, love you guys!!"
Personal cyber attacks are not pointed at actors, musicians, pop stars alone,
government officials seem to have the most cyber attacks, including President
George Bush and Hillary Clinton. President George Bush, Hilary Clinton,
and George Clooney have openly said cyber negativity has helped their popularity, by
giving them free press and exposure. Reference: Starpulse,

Darkest Side - Single REMAINING
03/24/08, KJZA-FMDarkest Side opened with the static crumbling of an
earthquake. Radios exploding, speakers falling from their mantles, and our ears
being assaulted. That was the sound of the singles first track, “REMAINS”,
introducing to the world Darkest Side.
As the guitars got more spacey, the neuron strings in our bodies still
grooved to this new dimension of grunge from this band. The song REMAINS is the
farthest jump for Darkest Side.
It was the look in the mirror that a man takes when he reaches the age when
he fails to recognize himself at first glance.
The single REMAINING is the answer to the question of years of waiting. How
will their first album GOTHIC NIGHTS do, the next story begins? |

security is tracking down the stalker, and will try to get in touch with the man

In addition to sending emails, the alleged stalker claims to be the lead
singers brother. Security for Rick Beaman, and the band Darkest Side was
concerned enough to sound an alarm. |

Rick Beaman Says His Music Makes People Feel Like They're Not Alone
03/11/08, Darkest Side Band ReleaseGrunge-rocker Rick Beaman accepts his lyrics can be
dark and depressing at times - but he has learned they actually help save lives
too. The singer hopes his songs about loneliness and desperation help troubled
fans realize they're not the only ones going through difficult times - he's been
there too.
But now Beaman has a more upbeat view of life, he's thrilled to hear suicidal
fans have chosen life over death after listening to his songs.
He explains, "I'm all about making people feel like they're not alone. One
fan wrote, they were seriously contemplating suicide, but that night they were
searching the Internet using the keywords (darkest side) on Yahoo, and came
across my music on
Fuzz.com, something pulled them back from the edge. I know how it feels to
be completely alone and helpless, and the last thing you want to hear in that
situation is, 'It's going to be OK.' The only thing that seems to really help is
that someone else who has felt that low expressing those feelings to you." |
Rick Beaman Blasting Media-Courting Celebs
03/01/08, Darkest Side Band ReleaseRock singer Rick Beaman blasted many Hollywood stars
for deliberately courting the tabloid press. The lead singer for the band
Darkest Side is
disgusted by Hollywood starlets who tip off the paparazzi, and hang around in
areas where they know they'll be spotted by photographers.
He says, "I think a lot of the Hollywood girls, Britney Spears, Paris Hilton,
Lindsay Lohan, and many more who are obsessed with the paparazzi. Before they
leave their homes, they call them so they'll be seen and followed for the rest
of the day.
"Tipping off the paparazzi is so lame, and cheesy. I did it the first few
times paparazzi was hanging around my home. Now it's embarrassing for me!" |
Darkest Side single, REMAINING
02/24/08, Daily Pop Music Reviews...Recently asked why the single REMAINING is
such a big deal, lead singer Rick Beaman explained that one of the songs on this
single (INNER FIGHT) was recorded in 2005 by his late wife, and the bands
drummer Debbie Beaman. The song was never released until this year, when the
band Darkest Side and Rick Beaman decided to add the song to their single.
Darkest Side, along with Rick Beaman are just one of a few artists who writes,
plays, and produces everything on their music. This can be a good thing, saving
at least three to six percent on the bottom line immediately, but all too often
it means there’s nobody to tell you when what you're doing just doesn't cut it.
Some may read into the title REMAINING as ironic being the featured song REMAINS
is on the single! But the heavy grunge, and hard rock sounds is what makes
Darkest Side, they are hardly known for their genre-bending musical
breakthroughs.
For those who love heavy grunge, more convincing sounds, and solid riffs.
Darkest Side is hi-octane, ass-kicking grunge at its best… |
Rick Beaman Pissed About Attacks on Britney Spears
02/12/08, KJZA-FMNew rocker Rick Beaman
is leaping to the defense of Britney Spears, insisting that no one has the right
to criticize the falling pop star. Beaman is convinced that paparazzi, and news
media have targeted Spears.
During Saturdays morning rock show, Rick spoke about Spears; "the press has
made Britney out to be a monster, its really f#$king bull s#%t! It's a joke. The
tabloids are destroying her with unfavorable reports. Even my own girlfriend
takes digs at Britney." |
Courtney Love Praises Rick Beaman for Attempting a Music Career
02/10/08, KJZA-FMCourtney Love has heaped praise on her friend lead
singer Rick
Beaman for having the guts to try his hand at music. The newest hard rocker
will release a debut single “Darkest Side - Remaining” later this month.
Love insists new artists are always "welcome" in the industry and doesn't
mind the competition.
She says, "There are always going to be other records and other singers out
there, and years from now I'm sure there'll be the next Rick Beaman's coming up.
I welcome it. I think it's great that Rick goes for what he wants." |
Rick Beaman: 'Hillary Clinton Is Crazy'
02/07/08, KJZA-FMDarkest Side lead singer and frontman Rick Beaman is
hoping Hillary Clinton fails in her bid to become the first female U.S.
president - because she's "crazy".
The rocker made his political allegiances known during a chat with KJZA on Wednesday. When asked who he was backing in the U.S. presidential
race, the star was adamant he didn't want the New York senator elected into
office.
He said, "I haven't really looked into U.S. politicians that much this year.
I really hope Hillary Clinton doesn't get elected cause she's crazy!!!!" |
Cut Back On Electricity?
02/03/08, KJZA-FMRock Singer Rick Beaman insists he'll never cut
back on using electricity, despite the negative effects wasting energy has on
the environment.
Rick admits he loves his electrical home comforts too much to switch off
appliances and lights - and he hasn't exactly been moved by this week's
technology global earth awareness conferences.
He jokes, "You can take the carbon footprint and stick it up my ass. I don't
care, I'm using electricity as long as I'm on this planet. I love turning stuff
on, I love having giant plasmas (TVs) everywhere. If I could drive an electric
car with a plasma in it, I would. I don't care about how much electricity I'm
using.
"I like turning stuff on. I like to have everything in my house turned on. I
hope that my carbon footprint is huge." |
Rick Beaman Writes Music With Meaning & Purpose
02/02/08, Darkest Side Band ReleaseRick Beaman laughs at fans who claim his songs
have no meaning, to understand the songs he writes, you must listen to the
words, all of the words in the songs have meaning and purpose. The lead signer
of Darkest Side says he sits down to write songs with a meaning, purpose, and
even a message.
He says, "When I write something, I have a specific idea of what the song is
about. The wave of people who interpret the songs, are not always right. Every
song has it's meaning and purpose."
He adds, "Grunge is not easy to follow or understand, not every rocker will
like the music. Some say Grunge is hard rock, but it's far from it." |
Will 'REMAINS' Be A Top Song?
01/31/08, KJZA-FMThe song 'REMAINS', may not be a
Billboard 100 music chart song. But REMAINS features lead singer Rick
Beaman, along with his group Darkest Side, the song is offers good vocals and
guitar riffs, but most likely will never be a Billboard 100 or top 200 song.
Review: "The guitars chime in on the opening of 'REMAINS'
and it's official: we've never heard rock quite like this".
"I suspect that Darkest Side, and lead singer Rick Beaman were secretly
trying to set themselves apart from the rest of the many small bands, but in
actuality they had been on that path for years, just not knowing it". |
Artist to Watch: Darkest Side
01/29/08, KJZA-FMWHO? When you call your band Darkest
Side, fans remember your name. "We like that 'Darkest Side'
seems subversive," says Rick Beaman. But Beaman admits the name is trickier
for the quintet's grunge and hard rock fans. "For a while,
when a stranger asked about the band, they just say, 'Oh,
you haven't heard of us.'"
SOUND? That excuse no longer works, since Darkest Side
have gathered so much buzz over the past few weeks. That
their music is playing across selected rock stations, due mostly to
the freewheeling indie-grunge-rock songs of REMAINS & INNER FIGHT.
Key-Track:
REMAINS:
A grunge and metal song, with a great mash-up of hard rock! |
Rick Beaman Doesn't 'Need' Success In The Music Business
01/28/08, Darkest Side Band ReleaseRick Beaman is so content with his life
with his relationship with
girlfriend Elizabeth Johnson that he doesn't need chart
success to make him happy.
The "new" rocker admits that his grunge style music will
never be as popular as it was during the 1990s heyday, but
he doesn't care as long as he can continue to make music
that rocks.
He says, "It's not about having to prove anything any
more".
The 49-year-old also insists it is important to keep coming up with new and
original material - which is why Rick opted for a grunge influence on his
upcoming single Darkest Side - Remaining.
He adds, "It's important to experiment. Without
experimentation there wouldn't be growth, and you risk
becoming something of a nostalgia act, trying to repeat past
successes." |
